OFSTED Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to share with you the finalised Ofsted report for Forest Moor School, which you can find attached to this letter. This report marks a significant milestone in our journey of continuous improvement.
I am incredibly proud to inform you that Forest Moor School has been rated as GOOD by Ofsted in all key areas, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire school community.
The report highlights several key positive points:
Significant Improvements: The school has made substantial progress in recent years with the support from the Wellspring Academy Trust. Our curriculum in subjects like English and mathematics has been carefully tailored to meet the needs of our students, ensuring they achieve formal qualifications before leaving school.
Strong Reading Culture: Reading is given high priority at our school. Pupils enjoy dedicated time every day for phonics and reading development, which helps them build fluency and confidence.
Supportive Environment: The school provides a nurturing environment where pupils with complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs feel safe and supported. Staff are well-trained to manage behaviour and provide a calm and caring approach in all interventions.
Deep Knowledge of Students: Our staff know the students extremely well, allowing them to tailor support and interventions to meet individual needs effectively. This deep understanding contributes to the positive and trusting relationships between staff and pupils, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Enrichment Opportunities: Pupils benefit from a broad curriculum that includes opportunities for outdoor learning and activities like caring for the school’s animals, which help them develop social skills and personal interests.
This achievement could not have been possible without the unwavering support from our students, staff, parents, carers, and the Wellspring Academy Trust. Together, we have transformed Forest Moor School from a school that had been in poor standing for over a decade into an amazing SEMH special school that meets the needs of all our students.
As the Principal, I am incredibly proud of our collective efforts and the positive impact we have made on our students’ lives. I look forward to continuing this journey of improvement and achieving even greater successes in the future.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Dave Roberts

Preparing for a Smooth Return: Tips for Easing Back-to-School Anxiety
Welcome back to Forest Moor School, where the new school year is just around the corner! We can’t wait to reunite with our wonderful students and families. While we are bursting with excitement to kick off another year of learning and growth, we understand that returning to school after a relaxing summer break can be a bit nerve-wracking for some.
At FMS, we’re here to support both students and parents in navigating these feelings of anxiety. To ensure a seamless transition back to school, we’ve compiled a list of helpful resources and tips, generously provided by North Yorkshire Early Help. We encourage you to explore these resources before the first official day, Thursday 7th September, and reach out to our dedicated staff if you have any concerns or questions.
1. Understanding Back-to-School Anxiety: Returning to school after a long break can trigger anxiety in students. It’s essential to recognize these feelings as normal and valid. Read more about understanding and managing back-to-school anxiety [here].
2. Creating a Calming Morning Routine: Establishing a predictable morning routine can alleviate stress and set a positive tone for the day. Check out how we create calming morning routine [here].
3. Open Lines of Communication: We value open and honest communication. If you or your child have any concerns or barriers to returning to school, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Contact our class lead via our school number or email, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
4. Virtual or In-Person: Your Choice: Whether you’re joining us in person or virtually, we’re ready to provide the best educational experience possible. Choose the option that suits your family best, and we’ll be here to support your decision.
We eagerly anticipate tomorrow’s Parent Review Day and the official start of the school year on Thursday. It’s a new beginning filled with exciting opportunities for growth, learning, and connection. If you have any questions or need additional support, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We’re here for you every step of the way.
